Gorge Games - Hood River OR
by samdrevo on Jul 03 2008, 6:05 GMT |
Come one come all! July 18-20, 2008 Check out events at www.gorgegames.net
The event that set the standard for extreme race kayak competition on the west coast is coming back online.
This is an open call for kayak competitors! The entry fee is only $40, and rumor has it there will be some prize money. Kayaking will definitely get the most billing in the Fox Sports Net broadcast (6 shows). I just sat down with the senior managing producer today, and he is fired up to have some great kayak content on prime time television. If you know anyone in the region who is interested in a fun competition, please invite them to the Gorge Games.
I also spoke with John Hart from the Kayak Shed (the race organizer), and we are still looking for some help with kayak safety. The pre-requisite is that you have paddled the green truss, and are comfortable in class IV-V Whitewater. If you or someone you know is interested volunteering to help out, you can email me directly at sam@eNRGkayaking.com, and I will make sure you get put on the list for the safety meeting.
Come on out and enjoy the festivities. It should be interesting- there is slalom skateboarding this year, kiteboarding, mountain biking, and more. Hope to see you there.

AW Deerfield Festival - Deerfield River, Charlemont, MA
by karenblom on Jul 11 2008, 18:42 GMT |
American Whitewater and F.L.O.W. started the Deerfield River Festival in 1994 to celebrate the successful dam relicensing process that took place in 1993.
The event focuses on bringing people to the area to enjoy a weekend of outdoor activities while showcasing whitewater paddlesports and raising funds and membership for American Whitewater. The main festival activities take place on Saturday afternoon/evening and provide entertainment for both paddlesport and non-paddlesport enthusiasts young and old.
The festival site will be bustling with activity including a whitewater marketplace, live entertainment, beer, and a silent auction with awesome outdoor gear. The Deerfield River Festival is a critical fundraiser for American Whitewater, and is one of our premiere events.
All proceeds from the festival support American Whitewater’s conservation and access work throughout the Northeast. Come out and join us for a weekend of great paddling, exciting competitions, live entertainment, and the infamous silent auction. |
