2008 Wildwater National Championsips - Deerfield River, Charlemont, MA by karenblom on Jul 11 2008, 18:45 GMT

Zoar Outdoor will be hosting the USA Wildwater Nationals on the Deerfield River in western Massachusetts on August 2 & 3, 2008. During the 1990s, Zoar Outdoor hosted a number of national competitions on the Deerfield River including Slalom Nationals, Junior Team Trials, Open Boat Nationals, and the Wildwater Nationals in 1993 and 1995 and 2007.

This year the Wildwater committee has decided to make a week (July 27 – Aug. 3) out of the Nationals with fun, easy races and training camps, clinics, talks and a cookout. All this is designed to increase participation in the nationals and get more paddlers in to wildwater boats. The committee is planning on providing some ww boats and wavehoppers for paddlers to try out and then do an easy race in. Most events during the week of July 27th to July 31st will be on Zoar Gap a10-mile, class 2-3 section on the Deerfield River. The fun races on July 27th, 30 and 31st are open to any type of boat.

Ohiopyle Falls Access Update and Festival Aug 23

www.FallsRace.com

Forecast and water level look great for this Saturday Aug 23. If you are coming to the event download the forms and bring them with you. We still need volunteers to help out.

Silent Auction: This year we have two boats in our Auction from Wave Sport and Dagger. You will get your choice among their lines of kayaks and order the boat directly from the company. We will also take bids via e-mail. Check out our web page for a sample of other items in our Silent Auction.

Ohiopyle Falls Access: We just received a letter from the Bureau Of State Parks that basically indicates that they will hold public meetings regarding private boater access for 2009. To read the letter, go to our Web site. We will keep you informed.

4th annual HOMEGROWN amateur photo/video contest

saturday august 30 2008 @ chattooga whitewater outfitters
entries no later than midnite august 22

seeking to encourage creativity inspired by a lack of resources, this contest is for the regular guy/gal who doesnt have access to international whitewater destinations or top of the line camera equipment. we hope to provide a good natured forum for folks to share their work and see it realized on the big screen, while at the same time getting together and having a good time. the theme is rivers/whitewater. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and honorable mention prizes will be awarded for 2 photo categories (action and artsy fartsy) and 2 video categories (3-5 minute general themed, and 1-3 minute strictly carnage). check out entries from the past 3 years at www.teamscum.com/homegrown4 and get started on an entry for this year. i suspect there will be some jagermeister involved, perhaps some loud music and rowdy behavior.
