I personally have touched and worked with the Am. chestnuts mentioned in this discussion as a forestry student at UT. It is highly likely that they are a hybrid cross containing 1/16 Chinese chestnut. If they are pure American then the genetic families being planted have shown some resistance to the blight in progeny tests. UT is trying to find the most resistant families and produce and test them some more.
And yeah, that pic was totally a clearcut.
This residential development sucks. Please leave out mountains alone.
