I think it was in 2002 or so. It is the best that I have read on the subject.
About ropes,
The type of knots in the rope reduce rope strength from 20 to over 50%, when it gets wet for the first time you loose some, when you use it for the first time you loose more. Basicly if you have the right knot, after the first use and getting it wet you have some where around 70-75% of the original strength left in the rope. This is where spectra and other fibers come in to play, the higher your initial strenght the more you have later. I to a point is based on budget. I have found rope with over a 40,000lb tensile strenght that cost around 5.50 a foot. I won't even get in to the rope sheath and core interaction affects the rope performance. I carry a spectra in my astral and a "Thrown out" bag or an old fat eddy's in my boat. If you want more info Email me and I will give you more.
peace
