In response to the below question on Ohio boater registration, here are some answers to this assinine regulation. The answers were from Public Information Section of the ODNR Division of Watercraft.
Q If a boater is from out of state (non-Ohio) and wants to paddle Ohio rivers, are there any boat registration requirements that would apply to the non-Ohio boaters?
A Visitors to Ohio are permitted to use their boats in Ohio up to 60 days without needing an Ohio registration as long as their boats are legally registered in their state of residence. If that state doesn't require kayaks to be registered, then the owner should carry some proof of residence. All navigation, carriage requirements and operating laws need to be obeyed as usual. This question is answered in the Common Questions (http://ohiodnr.com/watercraft/questions/tabid/2713/Default.aspx) portion of our web site, as well as the "Common Answers" portion of the Registration page at http://ohiodnr.com/watercraft/tabid/2774/default.aspx.
Q Does the 60 day requirement refer to the days on the water?
A The law is actually unspecific as written, but it is interpreted for the most part as actual days on the water.
Since the only people who paddle Ohio are those who live here or are passing through, the 60 day issue is a moot point. Even I can't paddle 60 days on Ohio rivers and I'm 10 minutes from the Cuyahoga.
