Hey folks; After 23 years of open boating I've been toying with the idea of picking up a Kayak.  I weigh in at a hefty 250 lbs which is no problem in a 13' Dagger OC-1.  I'm of the mind that a big volume creek boat is for me maybe a Prijon Hercules.  Now I am a solid class 4+ boater in my canoe, but know in a kayak I face a new learning curve. I know nothing about the paddles, skirts, etc for kayaks. Any info would would be great!  Hope to see all of y'all  down here in Georgia on our beautiful Chattooga river. PEACE!

smile they say you have to let people hit rock bottom before you can help them, 23 years is a long time to bottom out but mtnsport New

smile Not such a big change as all that. peterelkon New
th_up Peter is spot on! I`ll add a couple of things, but first I`ll say the reason I switched was debilitating pain....   rbowman New
smile Beer in one hand, remote in the other... lots of people want just that in a kayak (rec boats.) But re easy to roll. GRITS New
th_up Good point. I`m no design expert either, but if you want to see how hard a boat is to roll, use hand paddles.... rbowman New
gack OK, this is some sick sh*t. <NT> ckelly New
note Leland would be a good person to ask, since he paddles OC1, C1 and K1 equally well. GRITS New
note I think the most important question is what do you want our of boating adamCanoe New
feedback Almost all of the guys I know that switched, did it as a last resort. I definitely wasn`t happy with the prospect..... rbowman New
disagree Pay close attention to Rbowman's post above. DON'T DO IT canoeman New
smile The one just above, not the one about debilitating pain! canoeman New
th_up OC-1 was not something I gave up without a fight..... rbowman New
note Started in OC-1, soon switched to c-1 because, back then, open hulls were primitive. Pain of two kinds ezwater New
smile I think it's funny that pain had something to do with ez, rbowman, and me making the switch. peterelkon New
idea With the proper outfitting, there is no reason for a canoe to be less comfortable canoeman New
note Open boats sure, but you're pretty severly limited by deck height in C-1s.   Esp. converted kayaks. <NT> tcookson New
