I Recently returned from a trip with Costa Rica Rios and just wanted to let you all know that it was very disappointing.
Although they advertised it as a class IIi/IV trip, days 1-3 plus day 5 were almost strictly class II/III. The river levels were really, really low (which, I know, can't be helped, but I would have expected them to find rivers that worked better than the ones they used) which made it feel like boating our local (Western Washington) class III's in late summer: in other words, boring and tedious. We were constantly trying to rock ourselves off of rocks and thread our way through rocks with mere inches of water beneath our hulls.
Having been on trips in Ecuador, New Zealand, Alaska, Idaho and other places, and having always been satisfied, I ended up being sorely disappointed with Costa Rica Rios. For the record, I did a trip with them in 2005, and had a much better time, but they had different guides and different owners.
I will say that the people who wanted a class II trip were very happy with our week of rivers, but I would advise anyone wanting a more challenging week to look elsewhere. |
