I really get a kick out of the "OC/C-1 is harder" nonsense. As a "boater" I feel well qualified to say that it's really not a whole lot harder than kayaking. I'm definitely more proficient at kayaking because I spend most of my time doing that, but if I spent more time in C-1 I bet I'd feel just as comfortable in it. The amount of power and leverage you have in a C-1 blows K-1 out of the water, and that makes up for a lot (why else could the top c-1 slalom paddlers be competitive with the k-1ers?). The higher center of gravity is something that doesn't take long to get used to- and an OC or true C-boat is wider anyway, so it's inherently more stable. Only having a blade on one side is a bit of a disadvantage, but you only use one blade at a time anyway. Interesting, I've found the mechanics of a lot of the freestyle moves to be a good bit different. One thing I have noticed is that with the reduced swing weight in the bow of the boat, it's a lot easier to backstab a C-1 than a kayak.
