I was browsing through some of the crazy shit being paddled on the AW page and saw photos of a little kid running an obviously Class V drop on Henderson Creek. At Ain'tLouieFest I saw an 11-year-old girl run Baby Falls. But that was at low water with her parents there and tons of safety. I wonder about letting a 9-year-old run Class V
At that age it is really the parent's responsibility to determine what risks a child should take. I am not trying to criticize anyone else's choice but to raise what is obviously going to become a more common question as more and more children take up paddling. So much depends on the individual kid's personality, skill and fitness. But is there an age before which a kid should not be running the heinous?

Yep - about skill not age. RiverChique New
Miscommunication on my part...I wasn't saying Baby Falls is a V. It's a IV. HarrisonMetzger New

No worries and for the record, little girls been leading the way down that rapid for some time: miltymann New
have to be high water to be a IV, very high <NT> Louie New

It's the tallest class III in all the SE and Short Creek Falls is the tallest class II <NT> TheBroncoKid New

Your child paddling class IV is at equal risk as another child paddling class V thehead New

I disagree...I led Terry's daughter down some of her biggest rapids ever... bigsurfwaves New
The lawyer thing might have been over the top but there is a huge difference in class III and class V. And no matter how smitho New

There is a reason they don't let kids drive before 16. They aren't capable of making good decisions. After all we all smitho New
