How many kayakers die in CO in an average year? How many avalance fatalities are there?

There are plenty of people skiing in the backcountry, with their kids, and doing it as safe as possible. To be perfectly honest, you can't compare these two. Rivers, for the most part, are extremely static. Their dangers are static. The hydrolic, sieve, undercut, etc is all static.

Is the snow static? Hell no! I live out here in CO, I ski the backcountry, and I can tell you that I am way more scared on the snow b/c I can't predict what is going to happen. Even with avalance education you can still be suprised by a weak layer and trigger a HUGE slide.

When was the last time a big rock fell in the river and landed on someone?
