My point is that kids are kids and the largest %age of kids that get killed will be driving or riding in a car.

That was in reference to Blueez post. Just b/c she didn't teach him to "weave in and out of traffic" doesn't reduce his chances of doing so. For me, I took the BMW driving challenge/school and we were tought how to slide, spin, etc and keep control. I was also racing SCCA sanctioned events in my car when I was in highschool. What kept me safe was...

1. Training
2. Luck
3. luck
4. Not wanting to get killed.

I hit a good 140mph in a car, on the public highway, and it was nothing that a parent could have stopped. However, it was dumb as shit and I never did it again. Why? I want to live. Today, at 26, I drive a SUV and I'm a very conservative driver. I still run class 5/6 and I do it in as safe as a way as possible. This isn't any different from when I was 14 and running the Narrows of the Green or Overflow Creek.

My son will be 16 in 3weeks and is already driving.   I am going to let him drive because that is the natural progression of life.... to shut him off from that would be wrong.  I've educated him and I will put stipulations on his privileges.

Teaching him to weave in and out of traffic at high rates of speed would be setting him up for potential disaster.

Having a child who paddles is a natural progression, teaching him/her to huck off a V is setting him/her up for potential disaster.

Accidents happen, you cannot live in fear, but I'm not gonna go driving through crack central with my doors unlocked and my windows rolled down on a Saturday night. -  It's just not wise.

I see you have experience with children, but unless they are your own blood, you just don't understand.
