I am one of the many dedicated Y owners. When my cross-link one finally broke, I tried out several, but finally bought a new Y at a really nice price. What took 9 years to do in my first Y, took only two for my second, as it now has a crack already in it. Vinyl mastic is keeping me on the water.
I tried almost all of 'em that were out two years ago. Be ready for having to compromise with initial stability, and ferrying aspects. Most of the newer boats perform better on the fly (downriver manuevers and boofing).
Of the boats that I tried, I think the learning curve would be the flattest in a Mystic. For whatever reason, this 10 year Y boater paddled a Nomad exceptionally well, right off the bat.
Hope this helps. Be sure to post what you decide on.
