I saw them too. Green creeker (CFS?) and a Blunt maybe? We were in race mode and didn't have time to lead newbies down.

I want to say to everyone that if you're going to run the Green Narrows for your first time

1) have the skills to do it
2) don't be pressured into it by a friend  when it's clearly well above anything you've paddled before
3) recognize that you shouldn't just try to hook up at the river
4) find a good guide
5) if you don't have a good guide and are comfortable scouting and paddling class IV+/V water, get out there early and prepare yourself to scout anything you can't see.
6) understand that accidents happen and plenty of good boaters have ripped knuckles, banged helmets, destroyed shoulders out there
7) be aware of ingress and egress points in case you need them when Plan A jumps to Plan B, and plan B fails and something becomes a Worst Case Scenario
8) be in decent physical shape -- out of shape, out of breath isn't fun when you're paddling steep class IVs and Vs
9) don't use the Green as a big step up. Go first and get exceptionally comfortable on easier runs like Rocky Broad, Watauga, WFFB, etc. -- do that and you'll have more fun out there, anyway!

Those of us who paddle it aren't trying to be elitist, but safety is a real concern, as is access and public perception. I for one don't mind seeing anyone who's got the skills coming out there, and I love paddling with different folks, I'm just asking that folks give some respect to that river.
