Thanks for your in-depth response.  From the reading I've been doing, I realize that the best option for me now is to buy used.  You are correct to assume that i have no "whitewater" experience.  That is not the area I was really looking at going in right now at this moment. Basically, like you said, i'll mainly be in flat, slower moving water, with class ll's and just maybe a class lll.  Until i get more comfortable with my kayaking skills, this is what i'll be doing at first.  As time goes by i may move up to more intense rides.

I'm in Columbia, SC.   I'm 5'11"  at 155 pounds with a shoe size of 10.5
