Back in the days of the Prijon Hurricane, I lost my Hurricane after a nasty swim on Sweetwater Creek. It was way into flood stage and I got worked badly and had to come out of my boat. Some guy found it in a tree. I thought it was long gone. He wanted to keep it but his friends made him put out an add in one of the Atlanta club newsletters. I called him and expressed my grattitude. I did not live anywhere close. None the less a reward was tendered and a friend of mine picked it up at his house. The guy was really kind of short to me on the phone but I was the guy out of his boat on a flooded river so I took it gracefully. I was eternally grateful. It took me about 6 weeks in all.
I remembered that. We found a boat stuffed under the rock on the right at Singley's on Overflow one day. We pulled it out and put it by a tree. We found the owner at one of the outfitter's after we got done. He was thrilled and was able to hike in and get it. It was a good feeling.
I am pretty sure that boaters don't leave boats on rivers as a matter of littering. I would imagine that for the most part boats are left for a pretty good reason. I could not imagine that the paddler was not happy about the situation whether it was rented or personal. |
