I believe it has the most user friendly interior space and seating configuration of all the smaller SUVs. I also very much like the interior headroom when changing and moving about while inside. The suicide doors allow easy access to gear etc.. There are no carpets so wet gear is no problem....same with beer/coffee spills. After market carpets that fit precisely are available if you want them. I'm 6'2" and can sleep stretched out. Front and rear seats fold together to make a bed (of sorts) and the rear seats can be folded up to the sides or easily removed. There is a bomber factory look attachment point for Thule racks. And of course.....not the least is the legendary Honda dependability. Mine goes great in the snow. Admittedly gas mileage is not fantastic but pretty comparable to other comparable SUVs. I feel the advantages of the Element far out weigh the mile or two better gas mileage a Subie might obtain. I've been amazed at the amount of crap I can fit into my E. Check it out. One last word...if gas mileage is paramount...I'd go with an older AWD Matrix. I'm trying to talk my wife into buying one as our second car....lots of usable space but not quite enough for me.
