I have the Jetta TDI & you have to replace the timing belt at 100K. If if breaks you will need a new engine.

Be careful with VWs. Mine needed a new engine at 100K miles and they told me that was normal.

Outside of changing the timing belt every 100K miles, I was told that the TDI engine is bullet proof. 500k miles is common place. Of course the rest of the car will probably turn to shit well before the engine gives out.

TDI engines are okay, anything but that, look out. Regardless, I am sticking with Honda.
