I demoed the small and really fell in love with the design features of the Burn. When it came time to buy though I got a Medium without even trying it (not highly recommended) but never looked back. I really enjoy the extra volume for punching thru stuff and staying on the surface plus resurfacing after getting vertical. The extra length helps me get up and go too. Being a smaller boater in it though I had to make some adjustments both in outfitting and paddling style. Moved the seat all the way forward, built some stylish knee blocks, and brought the thigh braces all the way back. When on the water I have to be more of an active paddler in a lot of situations. I came from paddling a Mutant where I felt like more of a floater a lot of times. Now it's more advantageous and more fun in the Burn to really get after stuff more aggresivley.
Make sure you demo demo demo though. For the river you like to paddle the small might just be better.
Needless to say I love my Burn. I just sold my first Medium last month to get...........another Medium.
Hope this helps.
