Copperheads very seldom get in the water.  Maybe by accident.  They mostly hang out in brush piles and rock piles, anywhere there might be mice.  The Banded Water snake is often mistaken for Copperhead.  Look similar except for the head. Banded Water Snakes can be fairly aggressive this time of year.  Copperheads are ALWAYS fairly aggressive.
