He'd eddied out and put his hand out to a rock to steady his boat, and it landed on a big thick body. He snatched it back, and said the snake was just lying there looking at him like, "You just got your free one, buddy" but it didn't make any agressive movements or anything. Have heard other stories of c-heads that lead me to believe they will leave you alone if you let them alone.

Cotton mouths (water moccasins) are another story...
