us or what a wonderful experience it is.  It's much more than a hobby or sport, as you well know.  It's been one of the greatest experiences of my life and has allowed me to see places beautiful beyond description.  Fortunately, my wife boats and understands this too.  But I don't think a non-boater can.  So I can see how we might appear selfish to non-boaters.  Those who make that judgement would probably look at it differently if they could experience it too.  Often boaters try to share the fun and excitement of it and send an inexperienced girlfriend/boyfriend on a raftinig trip or take them on a trip that scares the shit out of them.  The other thing that makes it hard for non-boaters to understand is that we can't plan a trip far ahead of time.  We have to plan trips on the fly depending on rain.  It's hard to tell someone on Friday night, "Hey, babe it rained all day so I'm going boating this weekend."  That comes across as inconsiderate, but we don't have much choice.  Moral of story:  date or marry a boater or turn your significant other into a boater.
