We have a Toyota Matrix that we like and fits the wagon role pretty well.  The truck is really meant to fill a different function for our family.  It's for boating and for hauling junk for the house.  The subi handled that pretty well, but there was often a big mess that was a pain to clean up, like when I need to haul plants or pine straw.  A truck, I think will be much better for that.

I hadn't really considered a used toyota because it seems impossible to get a good enough deal to justify giving up the most maintenance free period of the vehicle's life.  After my experience with Subaru, maintenance is a very big concern for me.
