This year's maintenance on the Subaru will be over $4,000 if I don't junk the car.  Last year the scheduled mainteanance was well over your $750 estimate, and that didn't include the unscheduled maintenance.  I believe the math makes it cheaper getting a brand new car rather than keeping the Subaru.  The first 2 years of owning a car a by far the best, and having that is worth something too.  I promised myself, and my wife, that we would get a reliable car instead of another Subaru when we finally had to junk the Subi.  I thought it would be much later than this, but here we are. I understand that you've had good luck with the cars, but I've met people who are convinced VW makes a reliable car.  I'll go with my experience
