Brian Jennings and Bryan Kirk showed Chan and I down the high water lines yesterday. Also, Harjes drove shuttle which was key because we did not put on until like 5pm. 25,000 CFS is allot of water! We had 15,000 coming out of the dam (the maximum they can release without opening up the emergency tube), and another 10,000 coming in at the Meadow. It was big, kind of scary, but mostly fun. Waves in excess of 10' were common place, and where there are normally pools between rapids, yesterday there were wave trains as tall as you find in the big rapids at normal release. Most of the shoreline was way back in the trees, and the pillow rock was mostly under water. Death-holes were in abundance, so I was glad to have a couple good guides.
As Bryan Kirk put it: "it's kind of like an IQ-test, and we failed"
I can't wait to go back!
Thanks to Brian, Bryan, and Harjes for making yesterday possible.
Peace, Eli
