i think playboating has been the driver on lower degrees of offset. a lot of the serious playboaters will tell you that the less offset the better. 15 and even zero degrees are common.
keep in mind that the primary purpose of offset is to reduce wind drag while paddling into the wind. in essence you are never presenting the blade into the wind, but it turned and cutting into the wind. obviously this has limited application to the whitewater world.
it seems that most folks are embracing less offset as it means less wrist torque and the ability to react faster. my guess is 30 or 45 is ample for creeking. i had a 60 degree once and it totally sucked, that's sort of old school. i use a 45.
my only thing on a creeking paddle is that it should be as long as you can possibly handle. i think a longer paddle gives you more power and speed as you can really reach and pull. extra length can also be helpful with a pin/broach situation, which is why i also like to creek with wood paddles. i'm right at 6' and use a 200cm paddle for creeking. my playboating paddle is 196.
hopefully someone smarter than me will come on and answer your question.

I also like a 30-degree for creeking, but I think it's just a matter of preference. Chrisj New
