Used to be paddlers were a pretty tight knit community where everybody knew everybody. Not quite the same anymore. I've known paddlers that steal. Hell, dude that just got hired on w/ the paddle shop I was working for at the time used his shop key to gain entry after hours & attempted to steal the safe money. The dumbshit pushed IN the key lock on the safe though instead of just opening it & locked it! There were pry marks where he then tried to force it open w/ no success. Boss & I found a hangtag from a pair of IR guide shorts on the floor & determined they were missing. Saw fucker on the river the next day wearing his new britches! He just never came back, called, or anything. Another dude promised to bring my friend a c-note for the squirt he bought/traded & just split town w/ the boat & another buddy's furniture. I've known poser frat boys who would deal in stolen goods & then pose around town w/ a hot boat up top. I've seen kayaks of all varieties in pawn shops. I've had scum of the earth come in the shop trying to peddle a hot boat only to have me say sure, hang on, lemme' call my buddy whose been looking for one just like this ...call the cops ...and busted dude. It sucks to be sure. Ain't much worse than a thief in my book, but there's plenty of um' out there. I watch my shit w/ an eagle eye at most places. Yep, it blows ...wish everybody could just live by the golden rule.

Peace.
