I weigh about 140 and paddle a Star.  I was paddling it when I was heavier, and honestly if you want a boat you can get downriver with, then learning to muscle the All-Star will work 100 x better for you.  At 150 I was lagging behind everyone and my bow was pearling.  The boat is an amazing playboat and will help you figure out those flatwater moves faster, but for a downriver boat, I think you will find the All-Star might fit you better.

This is the problem I discovered being that "in-between" weight.  A tad too heavy for the Star, a tad too light for the All-Star.

You have to decide what you want the boat to do for you, and then make a choice.

One of the Keeners on the Ottawa River last year was going to buy a Star, but knowing that he was still growing (teenager) chose the All-Star.  He still weighs around 150 but has put the effort into muscling it around and getting comfortable in it, and he made the Canadian Junior Team for next year's Worlds!

Try both.  Try them on flatwater.  Take them downriver and see if you can keep up with your friends.  Take them surfing.  If you're going to spend the $$ on a boat, then be sure it's the one that you're most comfortable with.

Hope this helps!

Jen
