WoW!   What an exciting weekend.  I was lucky enough to see all the competitions and was extatic to see the the excitement!
Saturday am after my awesome burritos I drove from the Nanty registration booth to the Ocoee rodeo comp. in good time and we headed to Hell Hole for the first comp.  Advanced play.  I competed in this one but I pale in comparison to my fellow competitors.  Kat Levitt is one of the best damn chick boaters out there.  She threw every trick in the book but a picture perfect landing of an arial blunt by Megan Humphries took home the Gold.  She won a spankin' new Fluid Flirt!! But really...Kat kicked all our asses.  Chickie should be a pro!!  She is better than most!

Then I hauled on to the Cheoah for the boatercross event. I got a speeding ticket in Murphy on the way.   What a huge turnout!!  6 competitiors and about 45 spectators -- mostly in the water!  I kept asking folks to help with the start gate but everybody was like "Sorry but I wanna watch!"  It was awesome.  Funniest was to watch the rescue boaters try to keep up.  One of my buds got chundered along the way. If you didn't see it you really missed out!

I have to say one thing.  This is most important too.  Tera swam, as you read earlier but she swam to the finish after losing her boat.  I started the race, then hauled to the takeout dropping off cameramen along the way.  I set up and waited for the competitors at the bridge with some help from an incredibly helpful guy whose name I can't remember.. shame on me!!  Anyway.. the competitiors arrived within one minute of each other... all of them.. except one.. Tera.  Folks said she had issues so I assumed she would exit the river.  I went looking for her.    She didn't!!  She lost her boat but it was recovered,  so she swam to the finish line.  Being the schmo I am I went looking and didn'k keep time on her but she finished the race.  Holy cow!  That really says something about her integrity.  She was in the lead the whole way.  I gotta admit.. I was rooting for her!  The Cheoah is Teras river.
Thanks Tera for being such a cool chick boater by leading the pack and proving a point. ;-) It was a ringer, coaxed into the comp. at the takeout who smoked 'em all.  Bet they regret that one!  Nicki Malatin who took home the gold with a rockin' full face helmet from Predator!!

Next I mosied on to the Nanty.  This comp. was cool because it did not go to the best but to the most improved boater.  All the chicks entered the play clinic not knowing that the most improved-top 3 would get prizes.  They surfed their butts off in the hole by NOC.  It was incredible to watch the beginners get up the courage to get in the hole.  It's intimidating enough for the intermediate boaters! It was most special to watch them progress.  My buddy Marlo Wright won this one and took home a custom Werner paddle!!

Another note,  Samantha Bruner, with Jackson, and Boyd Rupelt on rescue, did the best job EVER of teaching this clinic.  These chicks came from far away  to spend time with her.  She was excellent with her expanded group of 12.  So sweet and patient yet forceful.  What a huge asset.. I could not have done it without she and Boyd!  Thanks you guys.. you were absolutely fantastic!

The dinner was the best.. riverside with Bunny Johns as our 2008 Boater Chick of the Year.  Juliette from ERA gave the induction speech.  I got teary eyed because Bunny has been such a big influence on me.  A special moment for everybody but I hope for Bunny the most special.  Thanks to Endless River Adventures and Juliette for making the night so special and being one of our biggest sponsors.  ERA is the best group of folks I've met in the business.  What a super group of people!!

Next year promises to be bigger and better.  We will be expanding our festival to 5 days of clinics, trips, and competitions for chicas of all classes, including open boater events!

The pics are on the way so stay tuned and mark your calenders for next year MAY 13-17, 2009.  Location TBD.

Many thanks to all my buds who made this possible for the chicas!!  Your leaders....

Thanks too in this dept. to Wendy and Tracy for so much help and support!! My Birmingham crew did a fabulous job holding it all (and me ) together.

Amanda Gettler was my rock.  She kept the festival, and me, in focus.  Thanks Amanda for all of your wonderful help.  You make a great manager!
