If everyone had donated, even just pocket change, every time they paddled the Narrows, there would likely have been enough to cover the rent. And if you don't feel it's worth it, it's always an option not to buy a key - that's your choice. No hard feelings. There are other options, it just takes either more time or more creative shuttling. But the key is an option for those boaters who want to come run laps, or get in a quickie run before work, etc. $5 a month isn't too shabby, though, if you're going to be there 5 days a week.
