I agree with all tactics being used by the THP. There was an accident on the stretch of Highway 74 just beyond the Ocoee near Parksville Lake on Sat. that proves that there is a problem. After a great day on the river, we were heading back to our campsite at AU when we came upon some stopped traffic. After sitting still for a while I decided to walk up ahead to see what the problem was. After arriving at the crash scene and speaking with some witnesses, I learned that a motorcyclist who was tailgating the car in fromt of him rear-ended that car when it had to stop short. The motorcyclist was thrown into on-coming traffic on the other side of the highway and was COMPLETELY RUN OVER by a Honda S2000 coming in the opposite direction. He was alive when he left the scene in the ambulance. But after speaking with a friend who sustained a neck injury(everything is going to be alright. Just quite a scare though) on the river that day, and who had gone to the hospital to recieve treatment for that injury, he said that a motorcycle crash victim had come into the ER while he was there, and the paramedics were administering CPR to keep the guy alive. I'm not sure if the guy lived or not (I can only hope that he did, and that he learned a lesson from this), but I AM sure that carelessness and recklessness were major contributing factors in this wreck.
SOMETIMES THESE PEOPLE NEED TO BE PROTECTED FROM THEMSELVES!!!
Public streets and highways are NO PLACE to test the limits of your abilities or equipment. To put the lives of, not only yourself, but everyone else on the road at risk, is selfish and immature.
One last thing. I don't wish harm to anyone anywhere, but if this guy didn't make it, well that's one less idiot I have to worry about running into me or me running over. Just imagine the terror that the driver of that Honda felt as this accident was happening. To be out for a nice weekend drive and have your life suddenly changed buy such carelessness, is unfair. Those folks didn't ask for this, but were unable to avoid it.
Please be careful out there, and remember that there are other people out there who obey the laws, and still end up as victims. |
