It's what happens to the innocent driver AFTER the fact that might be even more important.

In an unfortunate incident, I hit and killed a pedestrian due to no fault of my own. If I had been even the slightest bit unstable, that sort of thing can really cause you serious grief.

People who risk their lives on public roads are NOT just involving themselves.
