It is a tendonitis of the wrsit extensors and thumb abductors.  You probably have a large swollen area with some crepitation ("crunchiness") about 5 cm proximal to your wrist joint.  It's casued by repetitive wrist flexion and extension coupled with radial and ulnar deviation (side to side movement).  Unfortunately, the best thing for it is rest.  It also responds well to NSAID's like Naprosyn (Alleve) - take about 500mg twice a day.  A bentshaft paddle would reduce the radial and ulnar deviation moment, and probably help.
