It is indeed about 5cm from the wrist.  I am not sure what "crunchieness" means, but if I place my fingers on it and move them around, I can feel the tendons and "stuff" shifting around under there.   I know it took a long time to heal last time it happened.  This time it's not quite as sore, but just picking up something the weight of a beer is painful.  I'll give that alleve a try.  Problem is I want to use it on the green this weekend, so, I know it won't be healed up before I strain it again :(
