I've seen patients get better much faster than that, but not if they keep on aggravating it. Best thing really is to avoid that repetitive motion for at least a couple weeks, take NSAID's, and maybe even wear a splint (you can get them at CVS or Walgreen's - a soft neoprene one is fine, so long as it includes the thumb). Injections of corticosteroids into the area also work very well. The real problem is if you keep aggravating it, the tenosynovitis (inflammation - that weird motion you feel) will persist and be much more difficult to get rid of. Don't want to scare you - this rarely requires surgery, but can be a real nuisance if you don't nail it down. Once it has calmed down you need to think about what caused it (recent hammering, tennis, maybe lots of paddling). Again, dont want to sound like a salesman, but you may benefit from a bentshaft b/c it dosen't put your wrist in such an extreme positions. |
