Thinking of switching from the mystic to a habitat 80 -- I want more speed, softer edges. Only tried the habitat once so far (I'll have the chance to try it once more) -- I was impressed with its speed, stability and ability to hold a line (the displacement hull carries through boils much better than the planing hull on the mystic). I'd love to hear people's opinions of this boat who have had it a while -- for some reason it takes some time for quirks to come out with boats.
My initial thoughts: felt sluggish to turn and accelerate at first. My immediate thought was this is NOT the boat for me. Played with the outfitting a little bit and bulkhead, got myself tighter in it, used the edges a little more and LOVED it. Fast, carries through holes, stays on line for pushy boofs much better than the mystic.
Questions -- what do people who have had this boat for a while think? Anyone get rid of one for any particular reason? Likes and dislikes?
the track for moving the seat seemed to be a huge pain in the ass -- there were basically two separate tracks on each side of the seat, so I had to take the plate completely off to move it where I wanted it. I have a feeling the boat I tried was an older demo -- have they changed this?
I didn't feel the stern edges at all while paddling unless I engaged them, even when my stern occasionally hit while boofing? Are these edges ever a problem?
Where is the best seat position for most people? I had the seat pretty far forward, but that was in large part to the bizarre track setup under the screw-holes.
I've heard they went with a better layup for newer boats -- is this true? |
