I owned an 82 Mercury Zephyr for seven years. It was an old police car I paid $800 for. We never bothered with racks, just tied the boats to the roof using the headrests for rope anchors. The tie down system was awesome! Plus, after a year or so the roof was pooled out and contoured to the boat hulls. Never had to worry about hull deformation. That car racked up 100,000 miles driving to rivers. After it finally died a local hunter paid me $100 for the engine. Somehow, he squeezed the engine into a Sazuki Samurai. I still see the Samurai cruising around Polk County. In addition to the hassle free rack system the roof also made a great rain gage. Just had to park it on level ground to see how much rain we actually got.
