i think that shows you have a healthy mental state. why a person would be afraid in a hostile environment/situation is very personalized and goes to core issues like marital/child status, prior experiences, ect. very personalized.
i believe a more disturbing phenomenum is those that run really hard stuff and have become immune to fear or concern. folks new to the sport on the fast track seem to suffer more from this. its more of the approach to a situation that your screwing up isn't going to happen or isn't a part of your plans is what i'm talking about. sure, if you are confident you aren't going to focus on screwing up, that's a given. however, some folks aren't even wired to consider they could make a mistake or are capable of not achieving an unrealistic/poorly planned goal.
the above isn't seen just in paddling, but in every sport i've ever participated in and in the business world. some would call it arrogance, but in the boating context i'd say that it deserves a stronger word than that. |
