Re: smile My first time on the Ocoee. It was running about 6000cfs. It was fun, until it wasn't any more. <NT> Dale New

I thought I was hot shit, first time on the Ocoee, surfing Grumpy in my 1 week old RPM(with no hip pads) at 6000cfs(great first time level).

First time on the Ocoee, 6000 cfs, new boat, surfing it up at Grumpy. Hot shit.

Flip, roll. Still surfing. Still hot shit.

Flip, roll. Still surfing. Still hot shit.

Flip, darkness, then my boat was gone. How did that happen?

No sweat. I'll get a breath at the top of the first wave and look around. Get near the top of the wave and instead of going up and over it, I went through it. Tried to get a breath but choked on water. Cough, cough. Can't see anybody? Choking on water. I'm gonna DIE!!! NOT hot shit. Cold shit. Bull shit. Dumb shit. Shit, shit, shit...

Don't try to breath at the top of the wave. Breath in the trough. Still can't see anybody? Not hot shit. More like OH SHIT!!!

Finally emerge from the wave train and some mighty helpful raft guides(about a dozen) are throwing ropes from the river right bank. Too short. Shit. Finally, a rope smacks me in the face. SWEET!!!! I gonna LIVE!!!

I never pulled the skirt(that time). Not having hip pads and having the bulkhead out too far, combined with a self-popping skirt and the boat just fell off of me while I was getting window shaded.
