but I think we both agree that you gotta have skills to handle yourself and read water at any so called 'rating'...obviously the higher, the more one needs. The rest are details.  I agree that the time you reach V... you can either see the line or you can't, which would inherantly apply to VI.  You are right that it is maddening to hear many among us squabble over minute matters when it boils down to the most important "tool" of all, the person in the boat and whethr or not he/she can make it happen.

It just gets nauseating dealing with the ego that comes 'bad ass' hair boaters.  When it seems to miss the whole point of paddling at all.  It saddens me to see the sport cheapened by those that used it to stroke their own egos.  If someone wants to challenge their mind&body by pushing themself to their own personal limit, then go for it.  But don't assume for a second that it makes you superior and I am not aiming that at you per se.  We all our own ways to push ourselves, that personal standard ruler is misplaced on someone else.
