A friend's broke on what was probably its first trip, while carrying a boat up Big Creek this winter. Design seems good and he reported it comfortable until it broke 1 mile into the hike, but there seems to be too much force being placed on buckles that weren't designed for load bearing. Going with aluminum feed-through buckles rather than plastic clip-together buckles would be a good improvement for this piece of gear, though the snap-together buckles obviously make set-up faster.
We worked on a "pool noodle" and cam strap type system on Sunday for the Riot Magnum. Came up with something pretty simple; it required a 12-foot NRS cam strap and a 6-foot NRS cam strap and some pipe insulation (or a couple pool noodles. All of this equipment is off in a car in CO now, but I might be able to duplicate it here in NC with an extra Magnum and some extra straps.
From what I can tell of the noodle/strap designs, you have to come up with a unique design for almost every boat. We based this current placement/positioning off someone's design for a Dagger Nomad carrying system.
