I broke a rib about 3 months ago. Talk about pain. Here's what I learned:
Leave your core alone, except for stretching. Your pain is going to amplify as your muscles tighten to protect the broken area. Find whatever way to can to stretch them out. Be ready for the spasms. I drove across the US in a Penske truck with a broken rib. I took the first pain meds I've taken in 4 years. Every fricken bump hurt. The worst part was trying to lay down at the end of the day and my muscles would go crazy and make me feel like I was stabbed in the chest.
So, point is, I tried a few times to get back into things, but i did it too early. Wait until you feel %100, or you WILL be right back into the pain. I tried to get back into playboating, but I just kept hurting my rib even more. Even now, 3 months later, I can't do a certain type of sit up because there is too much pain.
So, just be careful what you do. It's not worth the extra recovery time. |
