The rotomolded center pillar in my Habitat 80 provided a nice platform for me to step out of a vertical pin on the Linville this winter.
The other nice thing about that particular pillar design is that it is recessed enough into the bow of the boat that I am able to get my size 15's past it in an emergency situation.
Not sure why other folks aren't putting more structural integrity into this aspect of kayak design...Yes, it may add weight, but it already came in quite handy for me.
Just my thoughts...
