So, I just bought my first boat (4Fun) about two weeks ago.  I have been all pumped about getting out to the whitewater park here in Charlotte.  My brother was in town last weekend and he spent about 30 minutes teaching me to roll.  Of course I was sore as hell the next day........but as the soreness wore off I noticed that my right shoulder was still sore.  I got a massage Saturday and the therapist said it could very well be a pulled muscle.  It's under my right scapula and grabs at times.  I'm extremely irritated because I was going to get on the water this week.

Has anyone had any similar problems?  I left weights about 3 days every week and play golf......my flexibility and strength are good.  I never would have imagined pulling a muscle trying to learn a damn roll!  Should I stay off the water until the pain is completely gone??

note A lesson with an instructor would be worthwhile. arrmike New
th_up You're probably tweaking you shoulder with your technique. Get an instructor! <NT> love2kayak New
th_up Don't ruin your shoulder learning to roll.  Get help! cityboy New
feedback I know lots of folks who lift weights regularly and then complain of soreness.... hardboater New
note Too much pulling with your arms, not enough hipsnap. Bradley New
note I wouldn't say using your arms doesn't work too well; I would say it just doesn't work. GRITS New
