ease/speed of egress is an advantage. I think the point some are trying to make is that involuntary "egress" is much more likely in an open canoe (and possibly a C1 as well), which places you in the realm of the swimmer, which has a host of new threats, not the least of which is foot entrapment. I think that inflatables cancel this out in a way by the ease with which they can be remounted and the fact that they are very difficult to submerge and less likely to be a hazard to the swimmer. |
