Channelized enough to get down the river without scraping. Still plenty of water in the channels to make for some fun moves. We did it a couple of years ago before Gauleyfest when everything was really low (New was -2', we did that too..not again!)

If you decide to go, it would be smart to have a look at Lost Paddle and Iron Ring. The river flows around, into, and mostly under some horribly undercut rocks in Lost Paddle at 500 cfs. We ran generally the same line as at release levels but after catching an eddy midriver to boat scout an 8' drop, found that we were committed to running the drop, which ended up being a nasty cauldron with undercut walls and an undercut guarding the exit. Very scary to find on the fly like that.  Iron Ring isn't as bad as Lost Paddle, but the flow is pushing into the sieved-out rock in the middle, and a lot of water is going under the right wall. Most everything else is just fine, and the pools last a long time.

Enjoy your trip
Chan
