I agree with the previous post.

It takes at least 5 runs to start becoming familiar with a boat and its peculiarities.
In some ways starting with a river runner is a bit better than a RR/playboat but the boat you have is good to start with so why sell now??
Once you get some good surfs you'll be hooked for life and it'll happen in the fun sooner than in a true riverrunner. (Surfing a longer boat requires smaller and earlier corrections than a short boat with a flat hull.)

Many /most people around ohiopyle have met that rock in the hole at cucumber and have a scar from it somewhere.
I agree with letting beginners walk it too. They dont realize how much the water bouncing off table rock will try to push you to the R into the hole. There is another good beginner line on the R side. Catch a big eddy above the hole, drag boat 15 feet to an eddy below the hole then bomb down the waves from there.

Sorry about your friend! But get him/her oiut there again and have some fun.
