I've seen more than your five on the river, and of those, I've been the sucker who drove three of those to the hospital, and I've followed an ambulance with other paddling buddies twice. Even my girlfriend has finally gone for a face guard on her helmet, unfortunately only after smashing her paddle through her lip and bleeding like a stuck pig. If you don't consider five plus facial injuries enough reason to keep your face in one piece, I think that you're not showing a lot of wisdom. If you are not willing to use something simple to protect your face, that's your business.
However, calling someone else gay because of their decision to be wiser and less obsessed with looks than you says more about you than about them.
After all, I would expect gay folks to be the ones more preoccupied with how their gear looks to others... You seem to care more about your appearance than me. So now who is calling who gay here? :-)
