SCUBA is one of the higher death rates.  Little info that would help the beginning SCUBA diver would be applicable to whitewater.

Another is power boating.  And much of that is really about alcohol.  They already teach the "evils" of alcohol in school. 

The need for a life jacket is a useful multisport lesson.  But they look about as cool as helmets on a skateboarder, so it is hard to teach a testosterone crazed teen.

I'd be happy if they'd just effectively teach math, science, writing, speaking and social work skills in school.
