So, I started paddling about 8 weeks ago at the USNWC in Charlotte.  I got a rolling lesson right away and my confidence level got a much needed boost.  I am running Class III no problem and have finally started dabbling with some surfing.  My roll is great and I've only swam once since I first hit the whitewater 8 weeks ago.

THAT WAS UNTIL I SPENT $325 ON A WERNER SHERPA!  I was using a straight shaft Aqua Bound with plastic blades and broke one of the blades last week.  So I thought I'd treat myself to a nice paddle and it's been hell ever since.  I got a bent shaft and my first lap around the park I was rolled 5-6 times......still not having to swim.  This really pissed me off b/c I usually get f;ipped 1-2 times, only when really pushing it on a surf wave.  So, I took my first day with this new paddle with a grain of salt.......maybe just a bad day.  So I took it out the next day and rolled even more!! I felt like I had no control at all and was getting exhausted trying to keep myself upright.  The slightest push would flip me and my roll all of a sudden totally sucked.

I went back out yesterday after a good nights sleep, my mind felt great and I told myself that it was going to be a good session on the water.  Man, was I wrong.  I got flipped on the first two drops and my roll sucked.  I tried to surf a wave, got rolled, and ended up injuring my "armpit muscle"...whatever it's called.  I decided I would finish my lap and call it a day to avoid any further injury.  I called it a day after 30 minutes on the water!!  I was PISSED.  Luckily the staff member gave me a refund!

What gives?  All of my confidence is gone since I bought this paddle.  It's like I'm cursed or something.  I was ready to take it over to the Class IV water on the Comp Channel before I bought this damn thing........now I'm scared of Class III!!!!  Not to mention I've probably pulled this muscle and have to stay off the water for 2-3 weeks.

Any motivational stories or advice you fellow paddlers can give would be GREATLY appreciated!!  Anyone had a similar strain on their "armpit muscle"?  It's the muscle on the front of my chest that runs from the front of my chest to the top end of my bicep.
