at the Beaver or the Raquette on Labor Day weekend and you will meet a ton of boaters. It will be pretty crowded that weekend due to the long weekend and the once a year release of the Moshier section. Don't let the crowds spoil your fun and you can meet some good people. The rest of the releases on these rivers are not crowded at all. Some other posts mention the Moose. I ran the Bottom about 6 times this spring and it was deserted. A few times there were other 1 or 2 other groups but most the time we were the only group. Any other year I would have said just show up on a release day and you can find someone to run it with but if the spring is any indication it might be tough. Also if you can get away for the weekend make sure you go to Moosefest. Usually if nothing else is running most people go up to the Black. You also have Fall Creek that runs through the Cornell campus. It is short and there are only a couple class 4 rapids but it is close. There are some fun micro creeks in and around Ithaca. They usually need a lot of rain but there is some very short and steep stuff in the area. Check out flowpaddlers.org and npmb.com. I live in Rochester which is a few hours away.
